With a major service, in addition to the “tune-up”, the vehicle goes on a lift, wheels are removed, tires and wheels inspected, and rotated (if required). Also, brake pad wear, and calipers are inspected, and if equipped, rear drums are cleaned and the shoes adjusted.
Additional in depth inspection is performed on all exhaust (pipes, components and mounts), suspension (shocks/struts, mounts, ball joints, control arms, stabilizer bars) and steering components (tie rods, steering rack, power steering pump, lines, and fluid). The fuel tank and all fuel tank components are also inspected, along with the fuel vapor system, as well as the fuel lines and their connections.
Another major difference between a “service” and a “tune-up” is fluid replacements. Replacing your car’s antifreeze/coolant will maintain the cooling system at peak efficiency. Coolant does wear out, and by replacing it you insure that the corrosion inhibitors are fresh, this helps eliminate the scale and corrosion that builds up inside the radiator when coolant is left in too long. Changing your coolant is normally done every 30.000 miles. . Continued on Page 2.
