Brakes

Like most components of a car, brakes are a wearable item that will periodically need servicing. Brake wear will vary depending on the type of driving you do. If you frequently drive in stop and go traffic, you will obviously wear out your brakes sooner than someone who does most of their driving on the highway.
here are other variables involved in brake wear. Cars with automatic transmissions will generally need to have a brake job before cars with standard shift transmissions. Alternatively, a car’s brakes will last longer if it has both front and rear disc brakes as opposed to a car with the more common brake configuration of front disc and rear drum brakes. Although, in the case of a front disc/rear drum configuration, the rear brake drums will usually last twice as long as the front disc brakes.
No matter what type of brake configuration your car has, whenever new brake pads are installed, the rotors will most likely need to be replaced. Today’s brake rotors are manufactured much thinner than in the past, and turning the rotors would bring them below minimum thickness specifications, replacing the rotors is the only safe option. Replacing brake rotors is necessary, to avoid premature, uneven wear and noise when braking.

Almost all brake pads have built-in “wear sensors” that produce a scraping or squealing sound when the pads become worn down. It is important to have your brakes checked as soon as you begin to hear this noise to avoid further damage.

A1 Auto Service uses only premium grade pads, rotors and drums, because they last longer and brake more effectively. Premium parts are also less likely to produce unwanted noise. In addition during the course of every brake job we free up, clean and lubricate the brake calipers with high temperature grease. This will help keep the calipers from binding, which can be one of the greatest causes of premature brake wear.
